Resources

As you prepare to get started at QC, we recommend that you bookmark and regularly return to the following invaluable resources:

  • The Teaching English 110 website for instructors is always the best place to start whenever looking for teaching resources.
  • The General Resources page on the English 110 website for instructors lists many other useful campus resources that you can access and utilize as a QC instructor.
  • On the QC English Department website are English department links for faculty (password is klapper). Some references are out of date and will be updated this summer; however, it provides access to great resources like grade change forms, the English Department syllabus archive, and course websites for instructors (like the English 110 instructor website).
  • The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has numerous resources that might be helpful to you. For example, they offer workshops, resources specifically for adjuncts, and support for online teaching tools, such as Zoom, Blackboard, and Google Classroom. CTL also offers the Best Practices for Teaching Online workshop, which you can register to take over the summer.
  • Contact the OIT Helpdesk (helpdesk@qc.cuny.edu) for all questions or issues related to Blackboard, Google Classroom, or your QC email account. We recommend shooting a quick email to them the moment you encounter technological issues.
  • The Professional Staff Congress (PSC) is the union that represents 30,000 faculty and staff at the City University of New York (CUNY) and the CUNY Research Foundation. Information on how to join the union, benefits offered to adjuncts, the CUNY Contract, and salary schedule are available on their website.
  • 12 lessons I learned while teaching in Summer 2020. Here is an excellent blog post from a FYW colleague at Baruch that provides compelling insights that can help you prepare to teach online in Fall 2021.
